When most of us are struggling to finish our morning coffee, Catherine Breed is out here swimming 30 miles through shark-infested waters like it’s just another Tuesday.

From Sharks to Shivers

This 32-year-old Mill Valley resident just set a mind-blowing record by swimming from the Farallon Islands to San Francisco in a jaw-dropping 13 hours, 54 minutes, and 10 seconds. And she didn’t just break the women’s record - she obliterated the overall record, beating previous swimmer Joe Locke by a solid four minutes.

Mental Fortitude on Another Level

Breed’s journey wasn’t just about physical endurance. Her Instagram captured the brutal mental challenge, with her describing the swim as “mentally the hardest” despite near-perfect conditions. She battled through constant shivering, jellyfish stings, and moments of pure exhaustion - even contemplating quitting when the Golden Gate Bridge was in sight.

What’s Next?

But here’s the kicker: this ocean-conquering athlete isn’t even done yet. Breed is already planning to swim the entire 840-mile California coastline next year. Because apparently, swimming through shark territory is just a warm-up for her. Talk about setting the bar impossibly high for the rest of us mere mortals.
