Politicians Caught Red-Handed: The Sneaky Job Hunt Exposed!

State politicians have officially been put on notice, and it’s about time. 🚨

The Great Job Switcheroo

Gov. Gavin Newsom just signed a game-changing law that forces elected officials to spill the tea about their future employment plans. No more secret job negotiations while voting on legislation that might suspiciously benefit their potential new bosses.

Why This Matters

Imagine a world where politicians can jump ship to cushy corporate gigs without anyone knowing. Wait, that’s been happening! Now, lawmakers must disclose their job offers on mandatory conflict of interest forms, revealing the position, employer details, and when they accepted the offer.

Trust Issues

As Assemblymember Tasha Boerner perfectly put it: “People’s distrust of the government is growing”. This law is basically a transparency mic drop, forcing politicians to show their hand before making career moves that could reek of potential corruption.

Since 2012, around 40 lawmakers have smoothly transitioned into lobbying, consulting, or executive roles with organizations actively working the Capitol system. Now, they’ll have to show their work - and we’re here for the accountability.

The Fair Political Practices Commission is basically saying: we see you, and we’re watching. 👀
