Silicon Valley’s favorite philanthropist just dropped the ultimate plot twist that has tech Twitter in absolute meltdown.

Marc Benioff, once hailed as a progressive tech messiah, has been caught red-handed attempting to cozy up to ICE while simultaneously throwing San Francisco under the bus. The Salesforce CEO’s recent support for bringing National Guard troops into the city and his company’s alleged efforts to win ICE contracts have sparked a firestorm of criticism from Bay Area luminaries.

The Backstory of a Betrayal

Benioff’s public pivot started with a shocking New York Times interview where he proclaimed, “I fully support the president. I think he’s doing a great job”. This statement alone sent shockwaves through the tech community, with longtime allies like Ron Conway and Laurene Powell Jobs swiftly condemning his stance.

Silicon Valley’s Moral Bankruptcy

The revelations go deeper than just political posturing. Leaked documents suggest Salesforce has been aggressively courting ICE, presenting their platform as an “ideal” tool for expanding the agency’s workforce and conducting raids. The company’s internal communications reveal employees were enthusiastically supporting these efforts, punctuating their pitch with fire emojis and well-wishes.

The Apology Tour

After significant backlash, Benioff quickly backpedaled, apologizing on X and claiming his earlier comments came from “an abundance of caution”. But for many San Franciscans, the damage was already done. Local supervisor Shamann Walton didn’t mince words, calling out Benioff’s transformation from a progressive champion to a “voice for bashing our beautiful city”.
