Bay Area Sports Fans Are Obsessed With This WNBA Team (And It's Not Who You Think!)

San Francisco’s newest sports sensation isn’t just making waves, it’s creating a tsunami of fan excitement.

The Golden State Valkyries, a first-year WNBA expansion team, are rewriting attendance records faster than tech bros can say “disruptive innovation”. Despite having a just-above-average record of 19-18 and zero superstar players, these badass women are selling out every single home game at Chase Center.

Breaking Records, Breaking Barriers

With an average of 18,064 fans per game, the Valkyries are proving that Bay Area sports fans are hungry for women’s basketball. This isn’t just a fluke, the WNBA has already broken its all-time attendance record this season, two-and-a-half weeks before the season even ends.

More Than Just Numbers

What’s driving this phenomenon? It could be the team’s killer branding, the deep-rooted women’s basketball culture from Stanford, or simply the Bay Area’s progressive sports appetite. One thing’s certain: these Valkyries are flying high.

Their playoff prospects look promising too, currently sitting in the Number Seven spot. And while their only All-Star is out with a knee injury and their draft pick is playing overseas, fans aren’t deterred.

The Future is Female (and Fierce)

In a sports landscape traditionally dominated by men, the Valkyries are carving out their own legendary path, one sold-out game at a time. Who said women’s sports can’t pack stadiums? Not San Francisco, that’s for sure.
