San Francisco’s political landscape just got a whole lot spicier, and not in the good way. Sheryl Davis, former Human Rights Commission chief, has been caught with her hand deep in the taxpayer cookie jar, to the tune of a jaw-dropping $4.6 million in misspent funds. 🙄

A Spending Spree Like No Other

Imagine using city money for a luxurious Martha’s Vineyard house rental, sponsoring a “Senior Prom,” and even paying for your son’s UCLA tuition. Sounds like a wild dream, right? Well, for Davis, it was a reality that’s now blowing up in her face.

The Auditor Drops the Hammer

City auditor Mark de la Rosa didn’t hold back, calling out the “pattern and practice of evading existing controls” at the Human Rights Commission. The audit reveals a smorgasbord of questionable expenses: $353,000 on food, $92,000 in vague “Prop Q” expenses, and even $8,000 for a “Queen’s Weekend Retreat” with spa services.

The Fallout

Davis, who previously led the Dream Keeper Initiative meant to support San Francisco’s Black community, now finds herself under a criminal investigation. Her defense? She was “too focused on the people, not the rules”. City Attorney David Chiu isn’t buying it, stating she “created an unethical culture” that stole resources from the very community she was supposed to serve.

Stay tuned, San Francisco. This political drama is far from over. 🍿
