In the latest episode of “What Did Trump Do Now?”, the former president has decided to throw a diplomatic hissy fit over a cheeky television ad from Ontario that dared to use Ronald Reagan’s words against tariffs. Talk about holding a grudge!

The Ad That Sparked a Trade War

Donald Trump, never one to let a slight go unnoticed, threatened to slap an extra 10% import tax on Canadian goods because Ontario ran an anti-tariff ad during the World Series. The ad, which featured quotes from Republican icon Ronald Reagan criticizing trade barriers, apparently hit Trump right in his protectionist feels.

Presidential Pettiness Goes International

In true Trump fashion, he took to Truth Social (because of course he did) to blast the Canadian province, claiming their advertisement was a “FRAUD” and a “hostile act”. Never mind that Reagan himself was actually quite skeptical of tariffs - details, right? Trump’s response is basically the political equivalent of a toddler throwing toys out of the playpen because someone used his favorite action figure without permission.

The Real Economic Impact

Behind the drama, there are serious consequences. Canada exports nearly $3.6 billion worth of goods to the U.S. daily, and Trump’s tariff threats could seriously disrupt this economic relationship. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has been trying to negotiate lower tariffs, but with Trump’s unpredictable approach, that seems about as likely as finding affordable housing in San Francisco.
