Bar Fail: How Gen Z Is Totally Killing the Drinking Scene (And Bartenders Are NOT Happy)

Alright, fellow Bay Area millennials and Gen Zers, we need to talk about our collective bar game – and it’s not looking good. Bartenders across the city are spilling some serious tea about how our generation is basically turning the drinking scene into a weird, low-key awkward experience.
The Broke and Bougie Bar Dilemma
Let’s be real: we’re showing up to bars with some seriously questionable habits. Splitting two drinks among five people? Ordering non-alcoholic beers and then nursing them for hours? Sounds about right. Bartenders are calling us out for our frugal – and frankly, embarrassing – drinking behaviors.
Social Media vs. Bar Etiquette
We’re more interested in getting the perfect Instagram story than actually enjoying a drink. Colorful cocktails that look good on TikTok? Absolutely. Understanding basic bar protocol? Hard pass. One bartender hilariously noted that we’d rather order a “purple Gatorade shot” than learn what a proper cocktail actually tastes like.
The Tipping Point
And don’t even get us started on tipping. Apparently, we’re notorious for leaving bartenders with cringe-worthy tips – or sometimes no tip at all. Even those of us flashing platinum AmEx cards are being called out for being stingy.
But hey, at least we’re polite, right? Bartenders admit we’re kind, complimentary, and definitely not starting bar fights. Small victories, folks.
