This NorCal DJ Just Dropped the Sickest Set on Half Dome (And We're Not Kidding)

I was freezing cold staying in the tent cabins in Half Dome (formerly Curry) Village in Yosemite Valley with my dad who was there for work, so I got up and drove around the valley at 6 am. There’s been lots of fires in the area and the valley was filled with this thick smoke. Stopped at a turnout near Tunnel View and shot this photo - I really love the symmetry of it and the smooth gradients the smoke produces.

Imagine hauling your DJ equipment up one of the most challenging hiking trails in California, just to spin tracks for some curious squirrels and zero human audience. Sounds crazy, right? But that’s exactly what Sonoma County DJ Habitaat just did at Yosemite’s Half Dome.

A Wild Musical Journey

In what might be the most quintessentially Bay Area adventure ever, Habitaat managed to secure a campsite lottery ticket and trek his minimal DJ gear to the 8,800-foot summit. His 38-minute set, which feels like a chill Mark Farina vibe mixed with mountain zen, was performed without any amplification - because respecting nature is peak Bay Area energy.

More Than Just a Viral Stunt

Beyond the Instagram-worthy moment, Habitaat’s stunt carries a powerful message about environmental preservation. “Remember , our national parks and wild places aren’t guaranteed to be here forever,” he passionately shared. His call to action highlights the ongoing threats to public lands and the importance of protecting these sacred spaces.

The inspiration? A bird’s-eye view from an airplane that sparked a wild idea: “What if I did a DJ set on top?” And just like that, a viral moment was born - part performance art, part environmental activism, and 100% pure California creativity.
