Drag Dynasty Drama: SF's Nightlife Icon Passes the Glittery Torch

The curtain is about to fall on one of San Francisco’s most iconic queer performance spaces, and honey, it’s going out with a sequin-studded bang.

Oasis nightclub, the beloved South of Market venue that has been a sanctuary for drag performers and queer art for a decade, is preparing for its final musical cabaret show. But this isn’t just any goodbye - it’s a legendary changing of the guard that will see D’Arcy Drollinger, SF’s first Drag Laureate, pass her sparkling scepter to Per Sia, a trans woman and Drag Queen Story Hour veteran.

A Decade of Queer Creativity

Co-founded by Drollinger and the late Heklina, Oasis has been more than just a nightclub - it’s been a cultural institution. Despite its immense popularity, rising operational costs and declining attendance have forced the venue to close its doors after New Year’s Eve. An armed robbery in July 2024 only added extra financial strain to an already challenging landscape for queer spaces.

The Grand Farewell

The final show promises to be an emotional rollercoaster. Hosted by Snaxx, the first cis female drag queen to win Oasis’s Star Search pageant, the evening will feature a star-studded lineup of local drag favorites. The Tom Shaw Trio will accompany performers in a set exploring themes of loss, grief, memories, and hope.

A Legacy Continues

Though the physical space is closing, Drollinger assures fans that queer performance art isn’t going anywhere. Through the nonprofit Oasis Arts, she plans to continue supporting and showcasing incredible drag talent across San Francisco’s venues.

The torch has been passed, the glitter will continue to shine, and San Francisco’s drag scene remains as vibrant and resilient as ever.
