These Badass Women Are Redefining Lowrider Culture, One Ride at a Time

Story and King: San José's Lowrider Culture' Exhibit

In the heart of San Jose, a group of fierce femmes is flipping the script on automotive tradition. The Dueñas car club isn’t just about stunning rides – it’s a revolution on wheels.

When Angel Romero started the all-women’s lowrider club, she was tired of being dismissed as just someone’s girlfriend or daughter. Her message? Women aren’t accessories in car culture – they’re driving it.

Breaking Barriers, Building Community

What started as a response to systemic sexism has become a powerful movement. With 11 members spanning from Modesto to Hollister, Dueñas is more than a car club – it’s a sisterhood that gives back. From collecting diapers for young mothers to supporting homeless communities, these women prove that lowriding is about lifting others up.

Beyond the Chrome and Paint

Romero’s vision goes deeper than stunning purple paint jobs and intricate chrome detailing. She’s challenging stereotypes about Latino communities and reclaiming a cultural art form that’s been historically marginalized.

Inspiring the Next Generation

Their impact is already rippling through the Bay Area. Other women-led car clubs like Chulas Unidas are emerging, inspired by Dueñas’ fearless approach to automotive culture. These women aren’t just driving cars – they’re driving change.
