Hollywood’s favorite comedy grandpa is at it again, and this time he’s coming for every franchise that thinks it can endlessly reboot and spin off.
Mel Brooks, the 98-year-old comedy legend, just dropped the most epic announcement for “Spaceballs 2” - a sequel that’s been 40 years in the making. And let’s be real, in an era of endless franchise expansions, who better to lampoon the whole circus than Brooks?
The Schwartz Strikes Back
Brooks isn’t just making a sequel; he’s making a meta-commentary on Hollywood’s obsession with recycling old content. His announcement video hilariously calls out the endless iterations of franchises like Star Wars, Jurassic Park, and Harry Potter.
Nostalgia Meets New School
The upcoming film will feature some original cast members like Bill Pullman and Rick Moranis, proving that sometimes you really can go home again. Josh Gad is also involved in the script, bringing a new generation’s comedic sensibility to the mix.
What to Expect
Brooks is describing the film as a “Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two but with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion Film” - which is basically peak satirical Brooks. The movie is set to release in 2027, giving fans plenty of time to get hyped and rewatch the original.
May the Schwartz be with you, indeed.
