San Jose’s streets are about to transform into the ultimate playground this weekend, and trust us, it’s gonna be epic. Viva CalleSJ is celebrating its 10th anniversary by shutting down nearly 10 miles of urban terrain, giving cyclists, skateboarders, and wild transportation enthusiasts total freedom to roam.
Imagine cruising down Story Road where cars usually reign supreme, but today? It’s all human-powered magic. From penny farthings (those ridiculous vintage bikes with massive front wheels) to horses dancing in front of churches, this event is basically a fever dream come to life.
More Than Just a Street Festival
This isn’t your average block party. We’re talking activity hubs with food trucks, live entertainment, and even free bike repair stations. The Youth Empowerment Alliance hub is bringing a rock-climbing wall and interactive art, because why settle for boring when you can have extraordinary?
Local Legends Unite
Mayor Matt Mahan and County Supervisor Betty Duong will be dropping by to celebrate, paying tribute to Ed Solis - the city hall champion who made this whole wild ride possible. With an expected turnout of 150,000 to 175,000 people, this is basically San Jose’s biggest street party of the year.
The Future Looks Bright
Brian Clampitt from Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services is dreaming big - potentially expanding Viva CalleSJ to every council district and neighboring cities. One thing’s certain: San Jose knows how to throw down a street festival like nowhere else.
