Just when you thought the Theranos drama was over, here comes another plot twist that’ll make your tech-loving heart skip a beat.
Billy Evans, the romantic partner of disgraced Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, is apparently not deterred by her epic startup implosion. Instead, he’s diving headfirst into another blood testing startup called Haemanthus - because apparently, learning from past mistakes isn’t a Silicon Valley priority.
The Startup Déjà Vu
Evan’s new venture sounds suspiciously familiar: a device claiming to test blood, saliva, and urine in seconds, with promises of detecting everything from glucose levels to potential cancers. Sound like Theranos 2.0? That’s because it basically is. The startup’s prototype even looks eerily similar to Theranos’ infamous blood-testing machine.
A Family Business of Bold Moves
Coming from a family of San Diego hoteliers, Evans seems to have inherited a knack for audacious entrepreneurship. His LinkedIn profile casually lists him at a “Not So Stealth Startup” since October 2022, suggesting a level of tech bro confidence that’s both impressive and slightly terrifying.
The Tech World Watches and Waits
While Holmes serves her federal prison sentence until 2032, her partner is already plotting his next big move. Starting with pet healthcare before potentially expanding to human testing, Evans appears determined to prove that the startup spirit can’t be crushed - even after one of the most notorious tech frauds in recent history.
Stay tuned, because in Silicon Valley, the line between visionary and con artist is always fascinatingly thin.
