Hey Bay Area fam, get ready for some serious local political tea! 🍵

San Jose’s District 5 Councilmember Peter Ortiz is about to drop a legislative bombshell that could change how federal immigration agents operate in our beloved city. His proposed policy would require U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to wear identification, effectively putting a spotlight on these often-mysterious federal operatives.

Why This Matters

ICE’s recent operations have been low-key terrorizing our immigrant communities. Masked agents in unmarked vehicles have been creating an atmosphere of fear so intense that folks are avoiding grocery stores, community events, and basically living in constant anxiety. Talk about a dystopian nightmare in Silicon Valley!

Community Protection

Ortiz is partnering with local nonprofit Amigos de Guadalupe to push this policy through City Council. This comes on the heels of San Jose’s recent $1 million allocation to support immigrant defense organizations - proving once again why we’re the progressive heart of the Bay Area.

The Bigger Picture

With rising incidents of ICE impersonators across the country, this policy isn’t just about transparency - it’s about protecting vulnerable community members. The San Jose Police Department has already made it clear they won’t assist with immigration enforcement, standing firm in their commitment to community safety.

Stay woke, San Jose! Your local government is fighting for you. 💪🏽
