The California high school track and field championships just got spicy – and we’re here for the tea! 🔥
AB Hernandez, a Junior from Jurupa Valley High School, is making waves in the long jump, high jump, and triple jump events, all while being a proud trans athlete. But not everyone’s cheering – some protesters are determined to rain on her parade.
The Political Showdown
President Trump decided to enter the chat by threatening to cut federal funding if California didn’t ban trans athletes from women’s sports. The Department of Justice is now investigating whether state laws violate Title IX, turning this track meet into a national political battleground.
Rules of Engagement
The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) dropped a controversial new rule: if a trans athlete medals, “biological female” athletes who would have otherwise medaled will also get a medal. Talk about trying to keep everyone happy – or just stirring more drama?
On the Ground
Outside the stadium, tensions were high. A plane flew overhead with a “no boys in girls sports” message, while a protester even got arrested for allegedly assaulting someone with a flag pole. Clovis Police reported the day was “very peaceful” – we’re not so sure about that.
Coach Antonia Currington from Oakland Tech kept it real, focusing on the athletes and hoping everyone can just compete and enjoy the moment. Meanwhile, local LGBTQ advocate Stelter Brown called out the protests as a distraction from the real stars: the students.
Bottom line? AB Hernandez is here to jump, compete, and absolutely slay – political drama be damned. 💪🌈
