Trump's HUD Is Destroying Homeless Support & Bay Area Folks Are Terrified

The Bay Area’s homeless support system is about to get absolutely decimated, and local leaders are sounding the alarm.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) just dropped a bombshell that’ll make your socialist heart break: they’re slashing funding for permanent housing from 90% to a measly 30%.
A Brutal Budget Bloodbath
Michael Gause from Sonoma County didn’t mince words, stating bluntly that “people are going to die”. And he’s not being dramatic. We’re talking about cutting support for 209 vulnerable people, including veterans, youth with disabilities, and people living with HIV/AIDS.
Diversity? More Like Divisiveness
To add insult to injury, the new HUD guidelines are actively penalizing regions with diversity, equity, and inclusion policies. Basically, if your community cares about social justice, you get less money. Talk about a bureaucratic backstab.
The Human Cost of Heartless Policy
Local leaders like Christy Saxton from Contra Costa are pleading for a community-driven approach. But HUD Secretary Scott Turner seems more interested in “promoting self-sufficiency” than actually keeping people housed and alive.
The bottom line? These cuts could impact around 3,000 people, potentially pushing hundreds back onto the streets. And in a region where housing is already a nightmare, this feels like a particularly cruel twist of the knife.
