Kings? No Thanks! Bay Area's Bold Protest Against Trump and Musk

Crowd of Protesters

San Francisco’s Civic Center played host to a fierce gathering of the disgruntled masses on Monday, as locals rallied under the banner of ‘No Kings on Presidents Day’. If you thought the city was just about brunch and tech startups, think again. This protest was aimed at two of the biggest names in the game: President Donald Trump and Tesla overlord Elon Musk.

Organized by the 50501 Movement, the rally was a part of a nationwide outcry against the tyranny of the tech and political elite, those people we tend to refer to as billionaires who operate like they own the world, because, well, they kinda do. Participants vented their frustrations about Trump’s apparent disdain for checks and balances, acting like a kid in a candy store who thinks he has a free pass to eat whatever he wants without mom knowing.

Armed with signs bearing slogans that were equal parts hilarious and scathing, attendees made their voices heard. One particularly bold sign read, “Name One Thing Trump Has Done Lately That Isn’t Illegal or Immoral?”, a challenge that truly puts the man’s track record to the test. Another flyer that stood out in the crowd asked, “Are You In My Nightmare Too?”, a question that resonates with many who feel trapped in the current political landscape.

Meanwhile, just a short drive away, protesters gathered outside a Tesla dealership on Van Ness Avenue, demanding accountability from the electric car kingpin himself. Signs like “Don’t Buy Nazi Cars” and “No One Voted for Elon Musk” left little to the imagination about where these folks stand. It’s a strong reminder that just because your car talks to you doesn’t mean it should dictate your conscience, hello, democracy!

The Boston branch of the protest was reportedly a little more historical, with nearly 1,000 people dressed in Revolutionary War attire, probably aiming for a blend of patriotism and sarcasm. But here in San Francisco, the message was crystal clear: Whether it’s Trump’s chaotic policies or Musk’s eccentric behavior, the people are fed up and they’re ready to shout it from the rooftops, or at least from the steps of City Hall.

So as more events like this pop up, the Bay Area shows yet again that when it comes to the rich and powerful, we’re not just going to roll over while they tell us what to do. Who needs kings when you have a community ready to stand up against the injustices they bring?
