Forget San Francisco’s fog for a second, it’s the heat from the kitchen that’s about to rise as Bravo’s Top Chef kicks off its 22nd season! This time, they’re trading the Golden Gate for the Great White North, taking contestants on a culinary tour of Canada. Premiering tonight at 9 PM, the show features not one, but two chefs from our beloved Bay Area, ready to battle it out for culinary supremacy!

First on the chopping block is Anya El-Wattar, a former chef at the now-closed Birch & Rye. This Russian-born talent was recently named Chef of the Year by Eater SF, but the closure of her restaurant had us wondering if it was her genius cooking or just the economics of fancy ingredients and labor-intensive dishes that did it in. But let’s be real, who doesn’t love a story of redemption?

Next up is Vincenzo ‘Vinny’ Loseto from St. Helena’s Michelin-starred Press. This culinary mastermind isn’t just a pretty face in a chef’s hat; he’s got the chops (pun intended) from working at heavyweights like Eleven Madison Park and even scored a gold medal at the Bocuse d’Or. As if we needed more proof that Bay Area chefs are culinary superheroes!

Also joining this season are chefs from the City of Angels, making this a coast-to-coast showdown. If you’re wondering how our local talents will fare against these competitors, look back at Laura Ozyilmaz’s impressive run last season, she made it to the final four, and we’ve been rooting for Bay Area chefs since the very first season was filmed here in 2006.

The show is set to spotlight diverse locations ranging from Toronto’s bustling streets to the breathtaking landscapes of Prince Edward Island. So even if you’re more about takeout than fine dining, at least you can binge-watch chefs working their magic on our TV screens while we navigate the high rent and ridiculous prices of our local eateries.

Catch the season premiere tonight. Because frankly, it’s time to escape the daily grind and indulge in some real drama, complete with knives, flames, and lots of chopping!
