Is Demarcus Robinson's 49ers Future Already in Jeopardy?

Demarcus Robinson, the shiny new toy the 49ers just signed for a two-year, $9.5 million contract, already finds himself in hot water, thanks to some poor life choices that culminated in a DUI charge. Talk about a rocky start to a fresh contract.
Robinson, who previously charmed the Los Angeles Rams, is facing legal troubles that could keep him off the field, or worse, off the roster, if the NFL’s substance abuse policy has anything to say about it. Rams’ GM Les Snead recently revealed that Robinson’s future is tied to these pesky legal issues, stating, “He has some things that he has to work through legally in the offseason that could prevent some playtime in the future”.
Isn’t it adorable when sports figures can be so candid about their comrades’ legal dramas? According to the NFL guidelines, without any aggravating circumstances, a first-time DUI offense typically earns a three-game suspension. But, if Robinson can’t stay out of trouble, we could be looking at a staggering eight-game vacation, which is about the same as being benched during a very long summer.
To make matters worse, our pal Demarcus was apprehended cruising at over 100 mph after a Rams game against the Eagles. Clearly, some poor decisions were made that night, decisions he might be regretting more than an ex-bf texting in the middle of the night.
With 31 catches for 505 yards and seven touchdowns last season, Robinson isn’t exactly a slouch on the field, but can the 49ers afford to invest in a player whose legal hurdles could hinder his on-field contributions? Time will tell if his stats will matter when the front office weighs his potential impact versus his penchant for bad choices!
So here’s your lesson, kids: don’t drink and drive, and certainly don’t do it after making a multi-million dollar deal. Otherwise, the only thing you’ll be catching is a legal notice.
As of now, we know only one thing for sure: The 49ers might be in the hunt for a new receiver sooner than they expected.
Stay tuned, because the next chapter of DeMarcus Robinson’s 49ers saga could write itself sooner than you think.
