Sacramento Jerseys: How the A's Are Desperately Clinging to California Vibes

Baseball fans, get ready for the most lukewarm jersey reveal in sports history. The Oakland - sorry, The A’s - are dropping a new alternate jersey that screams “we’re totally committed to Sacramento… for now”.

A Jersey With Identity Crisis

After bouncing between Oakland and Sacramento like a confused ping pong ball, the team is slapping “Sacramento” across their gold alternate jerseys starting next season. It’s basically their participation trophy for not completely ghosting California before heading to Las Vegas.

The Numbers Don’t Lie

Let’s talk attendance, shall we? The A’s are pulling in a whopping 9,487 fans per game - which is less populated than a typical WeWork co-working space. Last year’s Oakland Coliseum numbers weren’t much better, hovering around 11,529 fans. At this rate, they could probably recognize every single attendee by name.

A Polite “Thanks, But We’re Still Leaving” Gesture

A’s President Marc Badain claims the jersey is a “thank you” to Sacramento fans, businesses, and community leaders. Translation: “We appreciate you keeping us warm before our Vegas upgrade”.

While the mild California summer might have saved them from even lower attendance, this jersey feels like putting a band-aid on a baseball-sized wound. Nice try, A’s - we see right through your geographic commitment issues.
