Dating apps have officially entered their AI era, and two UC Berkeley nerds are leading the revolution.

Allen Wang and Eric Liu were probably tired of swiping through endless profiles and decided to create “Ditto”, an AI-powered matchmaking app that takes the awkward small talk out of dating.

How This Tech Magic Works

Instead of mindlessly scrolling and judging potential partners based on a single filtered selfie, Ditto lets users input their interests and dating preferences. Then, the app’s AI does the heavy lifting, finding matches that actually might have something in common with you.

Beyond Just Another Dating App

Currently rolling out at UC Berkeley, San Jose State, and UC San Diego, Ditto is targeting the college crowd who are simultaneously tech-savvy and romantically exhausted. The founders claim their app eliminates the painful “middle step” of dating app interactions - you know, those cringe-worthy opening lines and endless back-and-forth messaging.

While some might argue that AI is taking the “human” out of human connection, Wang and Liu are betting that their algorithm can actually make meaningful matches more efficiently.
