Oakland’s sports landscape is getting a serious glow-up, and we’re here for every epic moment.
Redco Development just dropped a cool $24 million to snag the former Raiders’ training facility, transforming it into a soccer sanctuary for the Oakland Roots and Soul Sports Club. Talk about a power move that’s keeping local sports alive and kicking!
A Home Run (Or Should We Say, Goal?)
The newly christened UCSF Health Oakland Roots and Soul Performance Center isn’t just another piece of real estate, it’s a 15-year commitment to Oakland’s athletic future. Spanning an impressive 18,000 square feet, this complex comes complete with training facilities, offices, locker rooms, and even a chic little auditorium.
Community Pride on the Field
Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee isn’t shy about celebrating this win. “By securing a long-term home for the Oakland Roots and Soul, we’re investing in our city’s future,” she proclaimed. The facility now houses both the men’s professional soccer team in the USL Championship league and the women’s team in the USL W League.
Breaking Ground Beyond Sports
This isn’t just about soccer, it’s about community resilience. With sale revenues splitting equally between Oakland and Alameda County, this deal represents more than a real estate transaction. It’s a testament to local determination and the power of strategic urban development.
