Art Takes Over Marina Motel: A Wild Weekend of Creativity You Can't Miss

StartUp Art Fair @ Hotel Del Sol

Get ready to have your mind blown, art lovers and culture vultures! The Startup Art Fair is making a triumphant return to San Francisco’s Hotel Del Sol this weekend, and it’s about to turn a vintage 1950s motor lodge into the most epic art playground you’ve ever seen.

After a five-year COVID-induced hibernation, this isn’t just another art fair – it’s a full-blown artistic takeover. Picture this: more than 60 artists transforming each hotel room into a unique, mind-bending exhibition space that’ll make your Instagram followers seriously jealous.

Performance Art That’ll Blow Your Mind

If you thought art was just about hanging pretty pictures, think again. Local queer artist Midori is set to unleash a performance piece titled “Godzilla vs The Golden Peril” that promises to be anything but ordinary. And Brazilian performer Guta Gati? She’ll be sitting on a chair made of lard for two hours. Yes, you read that right – lard. Performance art has never been this wild.

Interactive Art for the Social Media Generation

Artist Margaret Timbrell is bringing back her legendary “Selfie Wall” where autocorrect becomes your creative collaborator. Imagine getting your name hilariously misspelled and embroidered – it’s the perfect blend of tech humor and artistic expression that screams “Bay Area”.

But wait, there’s more! The fair isn’t just about visual art. They’re throwing in craft cocktails and DJs spinning sets on Friday and Saturday nights. It’s like an art gallery, music festival, and cocktail party had a beautiful, weird San Francisco baby.

Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. The Hotel Del Sol (3100 Webster Street) will be your art wonderland from Friday to Sunday, with hours ranging from 2-10 pm on Friday, noon-9 pm on Saturday, and noon-7 pm on Sunday.

Don’t miss this chance to see why San Francisco remains the quirkiest, most creative city in the universe.
