San Francisco’s food scene is always evolving, and this week is no different! After all, while we wave goodbye to beloved eateries, we’re also welcoming some exciting new spots. Here’s the scoop on what’s cooking in our fair city.
First up, Draymond Green is throwing his name into the culinary ring with a new Ethiopian-Dominican fusion joint, Meski, set to open on April 5. It’ll be nestling in at 1000 Larkin Street, formerly known as Members Only/Finders Keepers (and yes, we shed a tear for the iconic Saratoga). This new hotspot promises a flavor explosion, blending the Dominican heritage of chef Nelson German with the Ethiopian flair courtesy of restaurateur Guma Fassil. And get this – they’re even planning weekend brunches! R&B and Afrobeat DJs will set the vibe. Sounds like a Sunday well spent, don’t you think?
On the flip side, it’s time to pour one out for Ragazza, a mainstay pizzeria on Divisadero. The 15-year-old gem is closing its doors on March 31 due to slower business and lease negotiations. Owners Sharon Ardiana and Greg Hinds shared their heartfelt sentiments, saying, “It has been such a pleasure to serve the NOPA corridor for almost 15 years”. At least we know Gialina, the original parent restaurant, is still holding strong!
Switching gears, chef Viet Nguyen is gearing up to unveil the third location of his brainchild, Ben Tre Vietnamese Homestyle Cuisine, in the Lakeside neighborhood. Known for their gigantic Phozilla bowl, the new spot at 2650 Ocean Avenue is bound to be a hit – we can already taste the beef rib, oxtail, and even a Maine lobster (insert drooling emoji). Expected to serve up incredible homestyle dishes soon, we’re officially excited!
Speaking of openings, Downtown SF is set to welcome the Pabu Izakaya’s new sake tasting lounge. Located at 101 California Street, this 770-square-foot addition will offer tastings and bites. So while you’re sipping your sake, you can say you’re there for cultural enrichment.
For something a bit different, Oishii Matcha is preparing to take over the former Ritual Coffee spot at Noe and Market. Ready your taste buds for organic matcha lattes, croffles, and boba sundaes, a dessert lover’s paradise!
Lastly, Flora King has made its debut in Castro, serving up Argentinian tapas. If that doesn’t sound tasty, we don’t know what will!
So as our beloved Ragazza dims its lights, let’s raise a glass (or a Phozilla bowl) to all the lovely food adventures awaiting us in San Francisco. Who’s ready to dive in?
