Drag Queens, Jesus, and Bedazzled Bison: Inside SF's Wildest Easter Bash

San Francisco’s annual Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence Easter celebration just went gloriously off the rails, transforming Dolores Park into a queer carnival of divine proportions.
A Divine Disco Intervention
This year’s Hunky Jesus Contest wasn’t just a competition, it was a radical reclamation of faith, with a Beyoncé-inspired “Cowboy Carter Jesus” taking home the crown. Wild West, the winner, brought serious theological sass, riding a mirrorball-bedazzled bison and challenging Christian nationalist narratives with every fabulous step.
More Than Just a Pretty Face
The event wasn’t just about eye candy. With a theme of “No Easter Without the T,” the celebration was an unapologetic love letter to the trans community, featuring performances that defied gravity and expectations. From Jesus Crust’s bread puns to a Trump-trolling Jesus performance, the competition proved that irreverence and inclusivity can coexist beautifully.
Holy High Jinks
While 4/20 added an extra layer of mischief, the event remained surprisingly organized. Volunteer ambassadors kept the chaos to a minimum, proving that Bay Area queerness is as much about community as it is about controversy. Wild West summed it up perfectly: “Christ is about loving your neighbor,” and on this day, that love was served with glitter, sass, and a whole lot of attitude.
