San Francisco’s beloved locals are in for a treat, as the pastry wizard Belinda Leong’s b. patisserie sets up shop in Union Square Park! After the abrupt exit of celebrity chef Tyler Florence’s Miller & Lux Provisions, this renowned pastry haven will fill the void with all the sweet nibbles your heart desires.
For those who haven’t had the delight of tasting a kouign amann, this is your official invitation to indulge. Imagine a croissant but in a state of pure bliss, layers of buttery goodness that make even the grumpiest of mornings a little brighter. Leong’s sweet creations have captured hearts and taste buds alike since she opened b. patisserie in Pacific Heights back in 2013. And now, she’s bringing that magic to the Powell Street side of Union Square Park for a one-year trial that’s sure to charm.
The city definitely dropped the ball when it comes to keeping Florence’s café afloat, pouring over $440,000 in subsidies that didn’t bring in the promised crowds. We all know low foot traffic isn’t the reason why a place fails, unless you count boredom as a trend. Florence’s hasty exit left locals wondering what would fill this gastronomic gap, and now we know: sweet pastries galore!
Opening later this month, b. patisserie will be serving up delicious treats at reasonable prices. We might be living in a city where basic brunch costs as much as your student loans, but a kouign amann will set you back just $5.25. Each bite is like a hug from your grandma, if your grandma were an award-winning baker with a penchant for French pastries.
The new café will operate from Wednesday to Sunday, 8 AM to 4 PM, giving you ample opportunity to grab your morning glory or afternoon slump savior. Think croissants, macarons, coffee cakes, and all your sugary dreams come to life.
“We want to bring the community together, locals, visitors, and people who work around Union Square, by offering something delicious, easy to grab, and at a fair price,” said Leong. Sounds like a recipe for success!
The SF Rec and Parks Department is feeling the good vibes too, stating they’re optimistic about a long-term deal. We can only hope this deliciousness will stick around!
So, whether you’re a die-hard pastry lover or someone who just appreciates flaky goodness, clear your calendars and your taste buds because b. patisserie is about to become your new favorite pit stop in Union Square!
