The Cinch Saloon, a legendary Polk Street gay bar that’s been a sanctuary for queer folks since the disco era, is about to get a facelift that’ll make your vintage-loving heart skip a beat.

Scott Taylor, a longtime Cinch regular and former bartender, is stepping up to save this historic watering hole from potential obscurity after the passing of its previous owner, Bob Thornton. Talk about community preservation at its finest!

A Delicate Dance of Preservation

Taylor isn’t here to completely transform the space – he’s more like a careful curator ensuring the bar’s rich history remains intact. Expect some subtle upgrades like new flooring, refreshed tables, and a streamlined 40-foot bar. Bye-bye, Star Wars Cantina decor!

Cocktails with a Conscience

The beverage menu is getting a thoughtful upgrade too. More top-shelf spirits, wine on tap, and even non-alcoholic options will join the lineup. But don’t worry, regulars – affordability remains the name of the game.

A Living Piece of Queer History

As the city’s second-oldest continually operating gay bar, The Cinch represents more than just a place to grab a drink. It’s a testament to San Francisco’s vibrant LGBTQ+ community and its resilient spirit. In a city rapidly changing, this bar stands as a beacon of continuity and connection.

So here’s to The Cinch – may it continue to be a home for generations of queer joy, storytelling, and fabulous nights out.
