When most cities fold under pressure, Stockton is serving pure LGBTQ+ resilience realness.
This weekend, Stockton Pride returns for its 14th epic year, proving that love always wins - even in the face of targeted hate incidents. Marcus Mac, the visionary behind this celebration, isn’t just hosting an event; he’s creating a sanctuary for queer community members who’ve been told they don’t belong.
From Dream to Reality
Mac’s journey began over a decade ago when he was inspired by a Modesto Pride event and decided Stockton deserved its own queer celebration. Starting from scratch, he built a Pride committee that would become a beacon of hope for local LGBTQ+ residents.
Loud, Proud, and Unafraid
Despite recent hate incidents - including a brick thrown at a local LGBTQ+ health center and a Pride flag being removed from a resident’s home - Mac and his team are doubling down on their commitment. This year’s theme, “Loud and Proud,” isn’t just a slogan; it’s a defiant statement against bigotry.
Community Over Hate
The event promises a family-friendly atmosphere with food vendors, resources, and performances. Mac’s message is crystal clear: “If you want to wear a dress, this is your space. We won’t judge you”. This Saturday, Stockton isn’t just hosting Pride - it’s throwing a full-blown revolution of love and acceptance.
Stockton Pride happens from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Stockton Memorial Civic Auditorium. A suggested $5 donation supports this incredible community event.
