Tech Bros' Political Puppet Show: The Rebranding Nobody Asked For

San Francisco’s political landscape just got another makeover, and honestly, we’re not impressed.

The notorious tech PAC TogetherSF is pulling a classic Silicon Valley move – rebranding as “Blueprint for a Better San Francisco” after their epic electoral faceplant last November. Because nothing says “we totally nailed it” like completely changing your name, right?

The Same Old Players, New Name Tag

Forget grassroots activism. This group is backed by the usual suspects: Republican megadonor Bill Oberndorf, tech investor Ron Conway, and a handful of wealthy elites who seem to think throwing money at political campaigns is a personality trait. Their kickoff party? Naturally, on the top floor of the swanky Westin St. Francis hotel – because subtlety is not in their vocabulary.

Money Talks, But Not Always Effectively

Interestingly, primary donor Michael Moritz appears to have ghosted the organization. Their budget has dramatically shrunk from a whopping $17 million to a mere $2 million annual budget. Looks like even billionaires have limits to their political vanity projects.

A Strategic Pivot or Desperate Rebrand?

The group seems suspiciously interested in cozying up to Mayor Daniel Lurie, with spokesperson Scotty Jacobs proclaiming they’re there to “support” the mayor’s mandate. Translation: We’re desperate for political relevance.

At this point, watching San Francisco politics is like binge-watching a reality show where the contestants are wealthy tech bros playing political musical chairs. Stay tuned, because this circus is far from over.
