Sacramento A's Debut: A Total Ballpark Disaster That'll Make You Cringe

The Sacramento A’s first home game was less “play ball” and more “play disaster” - a comedy of errors that would make even the most loyal baseball fan want to throw in the towel.
Imagine paying good money to watch your new hometown team get absolutely demolished 18-3 by the Chicago Cubs, only to have the entire stadium experience descend into pure chaos. Scoreboards going dark? Check. Radio broadcast cutting out seven times? Double-check. A random drone interrupting play? Because of course that happened.
A Press Conference Straight Out of Fyre Festival
The embarrassment started early, with the team’s press conference held in what can only be described as a “Tuff Shed” outside the stadium - a move so amateur it felt like a parody of professional sports management. When the Cubs’ Dansby Swanson hit a first-inning home run making the score 4-0, the scoreboards dramatically went completely dark, as if even the technology was too ashamed to keep track.
The Fans Are NOT Happy
By the sixth inning, with the score a humiliating 16-3, fans were already streaming towards the exits, punctuating their frustration with loud chants of “Sell the team!” It was less a baseball game and more a masterclass in how NOT to launch a new sports franchise.
A Summer of Potential Disasters
And this might just be the beginning. With Sacramento’s infamous 110-degree summers looming, the potential for hot turf injuries and fan discomfort seems like a delightful cherry on top of this already spectacular failure sundae. Baseball gods, have mercy.
Welcome to Sacramento, A’s - it’s going to be a long, long season.
