Tech drama is getting the Hollywood treatment, and we’re here for it.
Get ready for “Artificial,” the upcoming comedy that’s about to turn the OpenAI saga into your new favorite silver screen spectacle. Amazon/MGM Studios is cooking up a hilarious behind-the-scenes look at the most chaotic four days in recent tech history - when Sam Altman was dramatically fired and then just as dramatically reinstated.
From Tech Boardroom to Big Screen
Andrew Garfield, fresh from his Spider-Man fame, is set to play the infamous Sam Altman. Because apparently, swinging between tech CEO roles is just as dramatic as swinging between skyscrapers. SF native Monica Barbaro will portray former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati, adding some local flavor to this Silicon Valley rollercoaster.
Behind the Scenes
The screenplay comes from Simon Rich, a former Saturday Night Live writer with some serious comedy chops. Rich, who happens to be a Harvard classmate of Mark Zuckerberg (because of course he is), previously wrote the Seth Rogen HBO comedy “An American Pickle”.
Where’s This Drama Going Down?
Filming is set to kick off this summer, with locations split between San Francisco and Italy. Because nothing says “tech drama” like throwing in some international intrigue. Whether this will be a theatrical release or another Amazon streaming special remains to be seen, but with this cast and concept, we’re definitely hitting play.
