Meet the New Judges: Who's Sitting on the Bench in Cali's Courtrooms?
SACRAMENTO – In the latest twist of legal fate, Governor Gavin Newsom has just dropped a major appointment bomb, selecting ten new Superior Court Judges across California. Time to welcome some fresh faces into the courtrooms – but who exactly are these new judges that we should be talking about?
Alameda County Appointments
First up is Doris Ng, who joins the Alameda County Superior Court after a notable stint at the U.S. Department of Labor. With experience as Chief Counsel in the California Department of Industrial Relations, Ng looks ready to tackle labor-related cases, and let’s be honest, after recent events, we need someone with her expertise. And Jonathan Wolff, stepping in as a judge in Alameda as well, comes from the California Attorney General’s Office, so you know he’s spent some time wrangling with the legal beasts of our state.
Los Angeles County Gets a Makeover
The City of Angels sees William Shin, who’s traded in his Deputy Attorney General badge for a judicial robe. With a background that spans multiple law-related roles, he’s no rookie. Kimberly Dotson and Faye Chen Barnouw also join the bench here. Dotson brings in her public defender experience, while Barnouw has spent years dealing with trade law at the Federal Trade Commission. Sounds like LA just leveled up its judicial game!
A Shift in Merced County
Merced welcomes Chamandeep Johal, not your average appointee, having previously served as a Commissioner. With her extensive background in family law, she’s geared up to manage her new role while making Merced proud.
Orange County’s Judicial Squad
Over in Orange County, Jennifer McCartney steps up from the Children’s Law Center - likely a huge win for advocates of children’s rights within the legal system. It also sounds a lot less scandalous than previous judicial appointments.
San Bernardino’s New Judiciary
Say hello to Cecilia Joo and Dina Amani. Both women are armed with experience from the San Bernardino Court, ready to make accountability a thing around these parts.
San Francisco’s Glamorous Addition
Finally, Julia Cervantes brings her extensive experience from the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, making her the perfect judge for a city that constantly buzzes with legal challenges.
With new appointments come new opportunities for justice and, let’s hope, a little less drama in our legal system. Here’s hoping these judges do justice – literally – to all of us in the Golden State.
